The Mazda CX-9 has received an update of the 2018 model year for a year since its initial release, bringing new technologies such as the company’s G-Vectoring control system and a new color.
Mazda also added more sound damping to improve vibration levels of noise (NVH), including a reduction in the difference in height between the rear end of the roof molding and the tailgate, as well as a thicker absorbent material on the underside of the awning. There are new insulating materials at the back of the side trim, which reduces tire noise and other noise from the rear of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the high-density fiber in the floor mats absorbs noise better and the insulating layer added to the ceiling reduces the reverberation of the sound in the cabin.

Mazda emphasizes the driving dynamics in its vehicles, and the 2018 Mazda CX-9 differs from the mid-sized crossover herd with its satisfactory management and overall performance, but lacks certain features offered by competitors, such as captain chairs for the middle row and a panoramic sunroof. Those looking for a SUV that focuses on the “sport” aspect should check out the CX-9. A second upper attachment point was added to the third row of seats, although only the upper second row benches obtained Isofix anchor points. All models also have rear-view mirrors.
The seats in the second row have been revised to allow better access on the most remote bench, with the seatback now being tilted by 33 degrees when the seat is slid forward, increasing the space between each second row seat and the housing of the rear wheel from 60 mm to about 200 mm. The slide rail retainers for the second row were also changed to plastic metal, reducing the slide resistance of a 30 percent claim, which means it will be easier to slide seats forward. Models equipped with electrically adjustable front seats now have a new tilt function for the driver’s seat, adjusting the height of the front edge of the cushion which can also be saved on the variants with the seat position memory. The electric seat controls also have an upgrade, with a chrome finish. In addition, the GT and Azami fittings get the seat heating for the outboard benches in the second row.
All variants of 2018 Mazda CX-9 continue to be powered by the new 2.5-liter turbo-gasoline four-cylinder engine that produces 170kW and 420Nm. Buyers have the option to choose from the front-wheel drive variants for economy, or all-wheel drive for versatility.
