The revised 2018 Peugeot 308 did not jump to the top of its class as a result of these mid-life updates. But it has been strengthened in a few key areas, with a more comprehensive range of security technologies, a more attractive appearance and greater efficiency. It’s a pity that Peugeot can not bring more interior influences from its latest 3008 SUV, but it’s still a comfortable, comfortable and economical hatchback.
At the front, there is a new black grille, a revised hood and a new front bumper with slightly larger outlets and LED headlights. The taillight protectors are now smoked, while the LEDs now shine with a three-claw light signature in line with the famous Peugeot lion. More obvious, is the exclusive Franche Coupe paint that job seekers can opt for; an impeccable two-tone top-of-the-range finish, combining magnetic blue and black Perla Nera paints, without being a visible seam between them.
You’ll also benefit from Peugeot’s latest-generation infotainment technology, incorporating a new touch screen with capacitive sensing and a mirrored display. Navigation has also been improved for Traffic 3D and offers a full range of safety aids such as Active Lane Keeping Assist, Automatic Headlight Control, Active Blind Spot Monitoring, Driver Warning, the speed recognition system and parking assistance. I’m sure it’s worth a nod to the true enthusiast, much more machine-centric under the hood and how the car is capable of tearing a b-road meander or rounding up some supercars at the annual pilgrimage of Track.
the engines, for the most part, are excellent. The high-performance 2.0-liter diesel has a lot of efficiency, but since it’s also a pretty noisy unit, it seems like most drivers would be more comfortable with the smaller diesel options – unless you’re towing a lot or want new eight-speed automatic transmission (as it’s exclusively available with the 2.0-liter 180hp engine, for now).
The 1.6-liter diesel was a big seller in the 308, but it will soon be replaced by a new 1.5-liter diesel engine. In 130 hp version, it is a very good powertrain that combines perfectly adequate performance with smooth driving characteristics and outstanding refinement at all times. For now, it’s only available with a six-speed manual gearbox, but we’re expecting an automatic option over time.
