Skoda has removed the Sportline and Scout versions of its Kodiaq SUV, which will follow the local launch of the initial version of the SUV in the third quarter of this year.
Starting with the engine, the 2018 Skoda Kodiaq gets a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine producing 132 kW and 320 Nm of torque. It is an engine that we have sampled in a range of other Skoda and Volkswagen products and it is a solid engine in all applications. It’s paired with a seven-speed DSG that’s not always everyone’s cup of tea, but DSG is really a great type of transmission. And that of Kodiaq is probably the best of the seven-seat DSG that I could taste in the VW group, if it does not hurt with low praise.
In addition to underbody protection, the Skoda Kodiaq Scout is recognizable from the outside by the tinted rear window and the rear side windows (SunSet), which protect against glare from the sun. Apart from that, the silver color details create the robust impression and highlight the powerful character of the new big SUV from the Czech manufacturer. The grille is framed by a silver trim. The roof rails, rear view mirror housing, side window trim and front and rear underbody protectors, placed under the bumpers and divided visually into three parts, are also silver colored.
The side view of each of the 2018 Skoda Kodiaq models is characterized by short overhangs, their sloped roofline that is visually extended by a line in the D-pillar, and the tapered rear. The Skoda Kodiaq Scout is also equipped as standard with 19-inch alloy wheels specially designed for this model variant. In addition, he wears a small badge with the model designation on the front fender and glove box.
The interiors of 2018 Skoda Kodiaq is simple, practical and with just enough elegance for the choice and design of material that it does not see as pretentious. Volkswagen is often considered the benchmark in dashboard and interior trim design at this price, but I think Skoda is the light of the brand and the Kodiaq dashboard is clean and simple with all the buttons wanting use easy to see and reach without making it feel cluttered. All the materials used in the cabin are top quality, of course, there are rough and rough things where you want hard plastic, like on doorknobs and around trash cans, but in places where you want things softer, the knee rests against the center console, you get a nice soft plastic.
