Climbing the new Subaru world platform of the Japanese manufacturer, the 2019 Subaru Forester seems to take the design indications of the new three-row Ascent crossover. The current Subaru Impreza mounts on the new architecture, which has improved the overall performance of the sports sedan. The Forester crossover is expected to benefit similarly, which helps it remain competitive in what has become a crowded segment.
In terms of design, the first thing you notice is that this new Forester is much larger than the old one. The actual is already quite spacious, but maybe this redesign offers even more room. You can also see the style indices borrowed from the Subaru three-row SUV, the ascent, and a character line similar to the one you get on the new Impreza.
The new 2019 Subaru Forester should ride on the new Subaru Global Platform, a modular architecture designed to eventually be used across the range. Considering it was designed with electrification in mind, there might even be room for a hybrid forester at some point.
The good news is that we will also see a sports variant in the direction of the current generation Forester 2.0XT. We can also see a Forester tS reinforced by STI now that the Subaru STI division is seriously taking the US market. Subaru has already sold a Tester Forester in Japan. The vehicle featured a host of chassis upgrades, although it’s 2.0-liter flat turbocharger 4, which provided the same 250 horsepower as the Forester 2.0XT stock.
Expect the redesigned Forester to go on sale next year as a 2019 model.
